Behaviour Management Systems

This program will provide participants with the latest research on child development and behaviour, as well as providing information on relevant procedures and up to date legislation that will have a direct bearing on how we interact with children.

• The Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) workshop will explore techniques used to deal with violence that matches the existing legislation outlined in The Education Act, The Criminal Code, and other legislative documents
• BMS explores theories that have shaped our thinking about the roots and triggers of behaviour: Psychosocial Theory, Social Learning Theory and Ecological Systems Theory
• The Individual, Secondary, Community and Social Systems and the risk and protective factors in people’s lives within each system
• 4 Phases – How and when to gather information about behaviour, how to communicate with people who are displaying violent tendencies, how to review and debrief after a critical incident has occurred, and examining supports and strategies to assist a person who is violent
• Physical activities to assist workers or family members in the skills of blocking a punch or a thrown object, how to release from a grip or hair pull, how to release from various choke holds, and how to safely contain a person who is presenting a clear and imminent danger to themselves and/or others
